STC Contributions

Paul Mueller has been an active member of STC for at least 20 years. During this time, he has been involved in many programs at both the local and the Society level. He received the Distinguished Chapter Service Award (DCSA) in 2006, and he became an STC Fellow in 2014. The following lists summarize some of the ways in which he has served STC and our industry.

Society-Level Service

  • 2013-2014, STC Summit Program Chair

    For the Phoenix Summit, lead the Program Advisory Committee that reviews all submitted proposals and makes recommendations about those submissions. Then, work with the Conference Chair and Education Director to review the recommendations and build a comprehensive program.

  • 2011-2013, STC Summit Conference Chair

    For the Chicago and Atlanta Summits, work with the Program Chair and the Education Director to review the recommendations and build a comprehensive program. Identify industry leaders and invite them to speak at the Summit on advanced technical communication topics.

  • 2010-2011, STC Summit Program Chair

    For the Sacramento Summit, lead the Program Advisory Committee that reviews all submitted proposals and makes recommendations about those submissions. Then, work with the Conference Chair and Education Director to review the recommendations and build a comprehensive program.

  • 2008-2010, Strategic Program Assessment Task Force Chair

    Lead the task force that did an analysis and assessment of each STC program area and submitted suggestions and recommendations to the Board to help STC grow stronger and better serve its membership.

  • 2009-2010, STC Summit Deputy Program Manager and Track Manager

    For the Dallas Summit, work with the Program Chair to organize the proposal review team and collect recommendations. Also serve as track manager for the Education & Training, Web Technologies, and Emerging Technologies tracks.

  • 2008-2009, STC Summit Track Manager

    For the Atlanta Summit, select and lead the review team for the Design, Architecture, and Publishing track.

  • 2008, Technical Communication Journal Editor-in-Chief Search Task Force Chair

    Lead the search committee who identified the top two candidates to serve as Editor-In-Chief for the Technical Communication journal.

  • 2007-2008, STC Director-at-Large

    Serve on the STC Board of Directors and help work on transformation-related issues.

  • 2005-2006, STC Summit Proposal Reviewer

    For the Las Vegas Summit, review session proposals for the Tools and Technology track.

Community-Level Service

  • 2002-present, STC Houston Webmaster

    Lead the web site design and implementation, and support web volunteers.

  • 2012-2013, STC Houston Director & Nominating Committee

    Serve on the administrative council and serve as Nominating Committee Chair.

  • 2010-2011, STC Houston Nominating Committee

    Serve on the nominating committee.

  • 2009-2010, STC Houston Immediate Past President

    Advise the current president and serve on the administrative council.

  • 2008-2009, STC Houston President

    Lead efforts to revise chapter by-laws and streamline the chapter organization and operations.

  • 2007-2008, STC Houston Strategic Advisor

    Advise the chapter president and administrative council in absence of an immediate past president.

  • 2006-2007, STC Houston Director of Programs

    Manage chapter program meetings by recruiting and advising speakers, suggesting topics, and organizing refreshments.

  • 2004-2005, STC Houston Vice President

    Assist the chapter president as needed.

  • 2004-2005, STC Houston Nominating Committee Manager

    Recruit candidates for 2005-2006 administrative council.

  • 2002-2004, STC Houston Director

    Serve on the administrative council.

  • 2001-2002, STC Houston Director of Programs

    Manage chapter program meetings by recruiting and advising speakers, suggesting topics, and organizing refreshments.

  • 2000-2001, STC Region 5 Conference Programs Committee Co-Manager

    For the STC Region 5 Conference in Houston, review proposals, recruit speakers, organize the final program with the co-manager, and manage the program budget.

  • 1998-2000, STC Houston Competition Judge

    Judge entries in the chapter-level competition.
